Indianapolis, Indiana – More than 35 million people across the Midwest are under Severe Thunderstorm Watches tonight as a widespread line of storms threatens damaging winds and hail through 1 a.m. Monday.
According to the National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center, a combined 125 counties across Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio are included in active watches. Watch 74 covers 50 counties in Indiana and 22 in Illinois until 1 a.m., while Watch 73 spans 53 counties in Ohio through midnight as storms continue pushing east.
Major metro areas including Indianapolis, Columbus, Cincinnati, Dayton, Evansville, and parts of southern Illinois such as Carbondale and Marion are all within the impact zone. Storms are expected to organize into a fast-moving line capable of producing wind gusts exceeding 60 mph and pockets of hail.
Key travel corridors including I-70, I-65, I-71, and I-75 may see sudden slowdowns due to heavy rain, debris, and rapidly reduced visibility. Isolated power outages are likely where stronger wind cores develop.
Residents across the region should secure outdoor items, charge devices, and stay alert for warnings. The severe threat will persist through 1 a.m., with additional warnings likely as storms intensify and track east across the Midwest.
