Davenport, IA– Interstate corridors across eastern Iowa and western Illinois are facing major delays and dangerous travel conditions this weekend as a powerful winter storm dumps up to 12 inches of snow on key highways including I-80, I-74, and US-61.

According to the National Weather Service, snow will begin late Friday and increase rapidly through Saturday. The most intense conditions are expected Saturday evening when snowfall rates reach 1–1.5 inches per hour and southeast winds gust up to 30 mph, creating whiteout conditions along high-speed routes.

I-80 from Iowa City to Princeton, I-74 from Peoria to the Quad Cities, and US-61 north of Burlington are expected to be especially hazardous, with visibility near zero during peak hours and rapid snow accumulation overwhelming plow operations.

Drivers are urged to postpone travel along these routes until conditions improve Sunday morning. If travel is necessary, keep an emergency kit in the vehicle and check 511 systems for real-time updates.

Road conditions will remain slick into early Sunday with drifting snow and spotty icing possible on bridges and overpasses.
