St. Louis, MO – Severe weather is wreaking havoc across multiple states in the Midwest tonight as a widespread tornado outbreak continues. Numerous tornado warnings remain active in Missouri, Illinois, and Arkansas as storms push through the region, bringing dangerous conditions through at least 3 a.m. Saturday.
According to the National Weather Service, tornadoes have been reported in several areas, with confirmed large and extremely dangerous twisters in Howell County, MO, and Carter County, MO. Emergency management officials have warned residents to take immediate shelter as storms move rapidly northeast at speeds up to 60 mph. Radar-confirmed tornadoes, along with large hail up to tennis-ball size and damaging winds, have been reported in affected areas.
Major metropolitan areas, including St. Louis, MO, and nearby Illinois counties, remain under tornado warnings, with threats of structural damage, downed trees, and power outages. Several state parks, including Confluence State Park and Washington State Park, are in the storm’s path.
Travel conditions are deteriorating quickly, with tornado-warned storms impacting major highways such as I-70 and I-55 in Missouri and Illinois. The fast-moving nature of these storms leaves little time for preparation, and authorities urge residents to seek shelter immediately.
The severe weather threat is expected to continue overnight, with additional warnings possible as storms push eastward. Residents are advised to stay alert, monitor weather updates, and have a safety plan in place.
