United States – Snow fell across a wide swath of the country over the past 24 hours, with measurable accumulation reported from the Midwest through the Northeast, according to federal forecasters.

According to the NOAA Weather Prediction Center, snowfall reports submitted to local National Weather Service offices show widespread light to moderate snow across parts of Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, New England, and the central Appalachians during the 24-hour period ending 11 a.m. Eastern on Sunday.

Most locations reported 1 to 4 inches of snow, particularly across the Midwest and Great Lakes region, while higher totals of 4 to 8 inches were more common through Ohio, western Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and portions of interior New York and New England. Isolated areas in the central Appalachian region reported locally higher totals, where snow bands lingered longer.

The snowfall created slick travel conditions on major corridors including Interstates 70, 71, 76, 80, 81, and 90, especially overnight as temperatures dropped and untreated roads refroze. Even areas with lighter snow experienced hazardous driving due to blowing snow and falling temperatures.

Forecasters note that the snowfall map reflects reports received so far, and totals may be refined as additional observations are submitted. Snowfall amounts can vary significantly over short distances, particularly in lake-effect and terrain-driven snow events.

With Arctic air now in place across much of the region, snowpack is expected to linger, increasing the risk of icy conditions during morning and nighttime hours.

Drivers are urged to continue using caution and allow extra time when traveling, especially in areas that saw repeated snow showers.
