Indianapolis, Indiana – Drivers across the Midwest should prepare for wet interstates and slower Easter travel, as a broad rain pattern targets key corridors during a peak holiday window.

According to the National Weather Service’s 8–14 day outlook issued March 27, a 50% to 60% probability of above-normal precipitation is expected from Missouri through Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, and into Michigan between Saturday and the following weekend. This places major routes like I-70, I-65, and I-55 in a zone where repeated rounds of rain are likely.

Travel along I-70 from St. Louis through Indianapolis to Columbus could see periodic slowdowns due to slick pavement and reduced visibility. I-65 between Chicago and Indianapolis is also at risk, especially during high-traffic travel periods leading into Easter weekend.

Farther north, I-80 and I-94 through Chicago and into Detroit fall within a 50% rain zone, supporting intermittent showers that could still create congestion along already busy routes. Meanwhile, I-75 through Ohio, including Dayton and Toledo, faces similar conditions with occasional rainfall impacting travel flow.

Temperatures across the region will trend above seasonal averages, ensuring precipitation falls as rain and increasing moisture available for steadier showers at times.

Drivers should allow extra travel time, check state DOT updates, and remain alert for changing road conditions. This unsettled pattern is expected to persist through the Easter travel window, with additional updates likely as timing becomes more precise.
