Chicago, IL – The Midwest is under a severe weather alert today, with parts of Illinois, Indiana, and Iowa bracing for damaging wind gusts and potential tornadoes. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has issued warnings, emphasizing the risk of severe storms that could produce wind gusts exceeding 75 mph, large hail, and tornadoes.
According to NOAA, clusters of severe storms may develop along a cold front, with the highest risk occurring from Monday afternoon into the overnight hours. The areas most likely to experience wind gusts exceeding 75 mph are highlighted in blue dashed lines on the weather map, including major cities such as Chicago, Peoria, and Indianapolis.
Primary risks include damaging wind gusts, large hail, and a conditional risk for tornadoes. The forecast warns that if a more organized bow echo develops, the risk of wind gusts exceeding 75 mph will increase significantly.
