Glen Elder, KS – Another earthquake was recorded near Waconda Lake in north-central Kansas on Saturday morning, marking continued seismic activity in the area this week, according to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS).
The latest tremor, a magnitude 2.8 quake, struck at 4:34 a.m. local time just west-northwest of Glen Elder at a depth of 7.8 kilometers. This follows two earlier earthquakes in the same region on Thursday, including a magnitude 3.2 quake southeast of Glen Elder and a 2.7-magnitude tremor southwest of the town.
Four people reported feeling Saturday’s quake, based on USGS “Did You Feel It?” responses. No damage or injuries have been reported.
Kansas, though not traditionally known for frequent earthquakes, has seen an increase in minor seismic events in recent years, with some studies linking the activity to wastewater injection from oil and gas operations.
Residents who experienced shaking are encouraged to report their observations to the USGS, helping scientists track ongoing seismic trends in the Midwest.
