Davenport, IA — Dangerously cold temperatures and extreme wind chills will grip Iowa and Illinois through Tuesday morning, with some areas along Highway 20 experiencing wind chills as low as -30°F. Residents are urged to stay indoors, bundle up, and limit time outside to avoid frostbite and hypothermia.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), a Cold Weather Advisory remains in effect across north-central Illinois, eastern Iowa, and portions of Missouri. Wind chills are expected to range between -15°F and -25°F across much of the region, with the coldest temperatures occurring overnight into Monday morning. Frostbite can occur within 30 minutes on exposed skin in these conditions.

The extended forecast shows Monday will remain frigid, with high temperatures near 7°F and lows dropping to -6°F. Wind chills will persist in the dangerous range. Temperatures are expected to improve slightly by Wednesday, with highs near 29°F.

Drivers are advised to exercise caution, especially along Highway 20 and I-80, where blowing snow and icy conditions may persist. Residents should check on elderly neighbors, ensure pets are kept indoors, and use space heaters safely to prevent carbon monoxide exposure.

For those needing to travel, dress in layers, wear gloves, hats, and insulated boots. Updates on weather conditions can be found through the National Weather Service or local news outlets.
