Kansas City, MO – The Midwest is set to experience extreme heat in early August, with temperatures significantly above normal across the region. The US National Weather Service has issued a forecast predicting a widespread heatwave from August 1-7. According to the NWS, this heatwave will encompass much of the Midwest, pushing daytime highs into the upper 90s and low 100s.
The 8-14 day temperature outlook map indicates a high probability of above-normal temperatures across states like Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Missouri, and Minnesota. Kansas City, for instance, is expected to reach a high of 94°F today, followed by 91°F on Friday and 88°F on Saturday. The heat will intensify next week, with highs of 99°F forecasted for Tuesday and Wednesday.
Residents across the Midwest are advised to take precautions against the heat, including staying hydrated, avoiding prolonged outdoor activities during peak heat hours, and checking on vulnerable individuals, such as the elderly and children.
