Chicago, IL – Bags of ground coffee sold in 15 states across the Midwest and South, including Illinois, Ohio, and Colorado, are being recalled after being mislabeled as decaffeinated but containing regular caffeine levels, federal officials confirmed.

According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, Massimo Zanetti Beverage USA voluntarily initiated the recall on March 13. The affected product is Our Family Traverse City Cherry Artificially Flavored Decaf Light Roast Ground Coffee, sold in 12-ounce bags and distributed by SpartanNash Company out of Grand Rapids, Michigan. The recall was officially classified as Class II by the FDA on March 25.

The product was distributed to stores in CO, IA, IL, IN, KS, KY, MI, MN, NC, ND, NE, OH, SD, WI, and WY. Recalled bags are marked with best-by date 080325 V 15:37 C.

Consumers with caffeine sensitivity or medical conditions should take extra care. Aurora Health Care notes that excess caffeine can worsen conditions like heart problems, diabetes, or anxiety.

The FDA warns that while decaf coffee contains less caffeine, mislabeled bags could deliver full-strength doses. No specific instructions for returns have been issued, and no official press release has been provided.
