Springfield, IL – Severe thunderstorms are forecast for Central Illinois on Tuesday, with significant weather shifts anticipated throughout the week.

According to the US National Weather Service Central Illinois, several rounds of storms are possible Tuesday, with the highest risk occurring in the afternoon and overnight. Predawn storms are also a possibility, though confidence in specifics remains low. These storms could bring damaging winds, large hail, and heavy rainfall, with an isolated tornado not ruled out.

The weather service emphasizes preparedness, advising residents to stay alert for warnings and have multiple ways to receive notifications. Temperatures will dip into the mid-60s tonight, offering a brief respite from the heat. However, the region will see a rapid increase in heat and humidity early in the week, with temperatures soaring to the mid-90s by Tuesday.

Wednesday will bring breezy conditions, with highs in the mid-80s to low 90s. The latter part of the week will see less humidity and temperatures ranging from the low to mid-80s. By Friday, another chance of storms returns with highs in the upper 80s.
