Midville, Ga. – Minor flooding along the Ogeechee River is set to continue through Thursday, threatening access to several rural roads in Burke and Jenkins counties. As of early Tuesday morning, river levels reached 6.5 feet, already surpassing the 6.0-foot flood stage.
According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, the river is expected to crest at 6.6 feet Tuesday morning before gradually receding. Water is flooding the access road into the River Bluff community in Midville, and the lower portion of Johnson Road near Herndon remains impassable. Drivers are urged to avoid these areas until conditions improve.
Residents in low-lying neighborhoods should monitor conditions closely and be prepared for continued high water over the next 48 hours. Authorities recommend securing outdoor belongings and using alternate routes if travel is necessary.
The river is forecast to drop below flood stage early Thursday morning, but officials warn that additional rain could prolong flooding. Updates will be issued as conditions change.
