Columbia, S.C. – A warming trend will settle over South Carolina this week, pushing highs into the low 90s across much of the state by mid- to late week. The National Weather Service in Columbia says the uptick in temperatures will pair with a growing chance for scattered thunderstorms, particularly by Thursday and Friday.

According to the NWS, highs Sunday and Monday will sit mainly in the low to mid-80s before climbing steadily into the upper 80s and low 90s midweek. Cities like Aiken, Camden, and Orangeburg could top 90° by Wednesday, while Columbia is projected to hit 92° on Friday. Afternoon humidity will make it feel even hotter, raising heat index values.

Residents should be prepared for pop-up thunderstorms late in the week, with the best chances during the late afternoon and evening hours. These storms could produce heavy rain, gusty winds, and brief lightning delays for outdoor events.

The warming pattern is expected to hold into next weekend, with occasional storms providing only temporary relief. The NWS will issue any necessary advisories if storm threats increase.
