Monroe, MI – Three members of the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Victim Services Unit (VSU) participated in a statewide training session in Midland, Michigan this past weekend, joining volunteers from 19 other sheriff’s offices.
According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, the three-day program was designed to strengthen skills that help support victims and their families during times of crisis. The training covered a range of sensitive topics, including communicating with children, working with individuals with disabilities, and delivering death notifications.
One Monroe County VSU member, Stacy Munday, shared her perspective in an interview with the Midland Daily News. She explained that her own life experiences motivated her to join the program, emphasizing the importance of guiding others through difficult times. “It’s about being there for others and paying it forward,” Munday said.
Sheriff Troy Goodnough praised the team’s efforts, stating that the Victim Services Unit provides vital support to both the sheriff’s office and the broader Monroe County community. “Words cannot express the gratitude and value the VSU brings,” Goodnough said.
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office emphasized that these trainings are critical to ensuring that victims across Michigan receive compassionate and professional support during some of life’s most difficult moments.
