Midland, MI – The Midland County Sheriff’s Office has received nearly $60,000 in grant funding to purchase a new Utility Terrain Vehicle (UTV), aimed at boosting emergency response and public safety.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, the $30,000 grant from the Charles J. Strosacker Foundation and $28,328.48 from the Midland Area Community Foundation will cover the cost of the vehicle. The UTV is expected to play a critical role in navigating challenging terrain, supporting search and rescue missions, and assisting during community emergencies.

Midland County spans roughly 43,000 acres of public land, much of which is difficult to access with standard vehicles. Officials said the new UTV will help deputies and first responders reach wooded areas, riverbanks, parks, and off-road locations more quickly, particularly during disasters such as flooding events.

Sheriff Scott Holzinger expressed gratitude for the funding, noting the vehicle’s long-term benefits. “This UTV will be a game-changer for our agency, allowing us to respond faster and more effectively in critical situations in hard-to-reach areas,” Holzinger said. “It’s an investment that will directly benefit the people we serve every day.”

The Sheriff’s Office said the grants reflect local foundations’ continued commitment to safety and community well-being. Officials plan to put the new UTV into service as part of their mission of “Community Focused, Service Driven.”
