Middletown, DE – A 12-year-old student is facing multiple felony charges following an alleged attempted robbery at a Middletown middle school earlier this month, according to the Delaware State Police.

According to Delaware State Police, officials at Louis L. Redding Middle School, located at 201 New Street in Middletown, contacted authorities on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, after learning of an attempted robbery that reportedly occurred the previous day inside the school.

Investigators say that on Monday, January 12, 2026, the juvenile suspect allegedly confronted another 12-year-old male student inside a school bathroom. Police allege the suspect pushed the victim against a wall and demanded personal property while holding a knife. The victim reportedly refused and was able to escape without injury.

School officials were notified of the incident by a witness the following day. During the school’s response, staff located a knife inside the suspect’s bookbag. The student was suspended, and the Delaware State Police Youth Aid Division was contacted to investigate.

Following the investigation, detectives obtained an arrest warrant for the suspect.

On Friday, January 23, 2026, the juvenile turned himself in at Delaware State Police Troop 2, police said. He was arraigned through New Castle County Family Court and released on a $4,000 unsecured bond.

The 12-year-old faces the following felony charges:

  • Attempted Robbery in the First Degree
  • Possession of a Deadly Weapon During the Commission of a Felony
  • Possession of a Weapon in a Safe Recreation Zone
  • Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon

Due to the suspect’s age, no identifying information has been released.
