According to Delaware State Police, the shooting happened around 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 9. Investigators said the teen was driving a Nissan Altima with two other teenagers when a dark-colored sedan allegedly began following them as they traveled east on State Route 299 toward the Route 1 southbound ramp.
Police said that when the teens entered the ramp, the sedan reportedly drove around their vehicle and someone inside opened fire. Multiple rounds struck both the teen driver and the Nissan, while the two passengers were not injured. All three teens walked to a nearby business on Middletown Odessa Road to request help.
The 17-year-old was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
The Route 1 ramp remained closed for an extended period Tuesday night while investigators processed the scene and collected shell casings and other evidence.
