Middletown, DE – A 31-year-old Maryland man was killed early Monday in a two-vehicle crash that temporarily closed part of U.S. Route 301 in Middletown.

According to Delaware State Police, the crash happened around 1:40 a.m. when a Kenworth tractor was traveling southbound in the left lane of U.S. Route 301 near Bunker Hill Road. At the same time, a Ford Focus was heading northbound in the left lane when the two vehicles collided head-on.

The driver of the Ford, a 31-year-old man from Elkton, Maryland, was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity is being withheld pending notification of family.

Police said the 60-year-old driver of the Kenworth, a man from Yonkers, New York, suffered serious injuries and was taken to a local hospital. A 62-year-old female passenger in the Kenworth, also from Yonkers, was hospitalized with serious injuries.

U.S. Route 301 was closed for several hours while investigators worked the scene and cleared the roadway.
