Crossville, TN – Snow-covered back roads and slick bridges could make the Monday evening drive difficult across parts of Middle Tennessee, especially on the Cumberland Plateau where light accumulation is lingering into the evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Nashville, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 7 p.m. CDT Monday for Clay, Pickett, Jackson, Putnam, Overton, Fentress, De Kalb, White, Cumberland, Coffee, Warren, Grundy and Van Buren counties. Total snow accumulations of 1 to 2 inches are expected across the advisory area, including Crossville, Cookeville, Sparta, Jamestown, Smithville, Manchester and McMinnville. Forecasters warn that slippery road conditions could affect the Monday evening commute, especially on untreated secondary roads, elevated surfaces and higher terrain.

The broader impact stretches from the Upper Cumberland into southern Plateau communities, where light snowfall can quickly create trouble on rural routes and shaded roads. Areas around Interstate 40 near Cookeville and Crossville, along with smaller roads in Fentress, Grundy and Van Buren counties, may see the most persistent slick spots through sunset. In Coffee and Warren counties, slushy patches could develop where road temperatures stay cold enough to support accumulation.

Drivers should slow down, leave extra braking distance and check Tennessee 511 before heading out. The advisory is set to expire this evening, but isolated slick spots may hold on a little longer in colder, elevated areas.
