Cookeville, Tennessee – Light snow and flurries are expected to create slick travel conditions across parts of Middle Tennessee from Friday into early Saturday, particularly across the Cumberland Plateau.
According to the National Weather Service in Nashville, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from Friday midday through Saturday midday for portions of Middle Tennessee, including Pickett, Putnam, Overton, Fentress, White, Cumberland, and Van Buren counties. Snow accumulations are expected to remain light, generally up to one inch, though isolated higher totals approaching two inches are possible in higher elevations of the Plateau.
Snow is expected to develop Friday afternoon and continue into Friday night, with the greatest impacts likely during the Friday evening commute and overnight hours. While totals are limited, cold pavement temperatures may allow snow to stick to untreated roads, bridges, and overpasses, leading to slick spots.
Communities such as Cookeville, Crossville, Jamestown, Livingston, Sparta, Byrdstown, and Spencer could see intermittent snow showers that briefly reduce visibility and traction. Travel along U.S. 70, U.S. 127, and Interstate 40 through higher terrain may become hazardous at times.
Drivers are urged to slow down, increase following distance, and allow extra travel time. The advisory remains in effect through Saturday midday, with lingering slick spots possible even after snow tapers off.
