COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – A quick-moving burst of winter weather will bring light snow and slick travel to parts of the Upper Cumberland region Monday afternoon, marking one of the season’s first wintry systems for Middle Tennessee. Accumulations of up to one inch are expected, mainly on grassy and elevated surfaces, though some roads could become icy by the evening commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Nashville, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from noon to 6 p.m. CST Monday for Clay, Pickett, Jackson, Putnam, Overton, Fentress, White, Cumberland, and Van Buren Counties, including cities such as Cookeville, Crossville, Livingston, and Jamestown.

The snow will develop as a cold front sweeps through the region Monday afternoon, with temperatures quickly falling near freezing by dusk. Light accumulation is most likely across the Cumberland Plateau and higher terrain, where road surfaces may become slick—especially along Highway 111, U.S. 70N, and Interstate 40 near Monterey.

Drivers are urged to slow down and allow extra time for travel during the late day and early evening. Conditions are expected to improve by Monday night as skies clear and temperatures dip into the 20s.
