Nashville, TN – Much of Middle Tennessee will begin Sunday under a Cold Weather Advisory, with wind chills expected to fall to around 1 degree below zero, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Nashville.
The advisory spans a broad region that includes Nashville, Clarksville, Franklin, Gallatin, Murfreesboro, Columbia, Cookeville, Crossville, Shelbyville, Lawrenceburg, and dozens of surrounding communities. The alert is in effect from midnight Saturday night through noon Sunday, a period when Arctic air settles into the state and winds intensify slightly.
According to NWS forecasters, the combination of cold temperatures and brisk winds may lead to hypothermia with prolonged exposure. While the cold spell is not expected to be long-lasting, officials emphasize that the early-morning hours—just before sunrise Sunday—will bring the coldest and most hazardous conditions.
Residents are urged to wear multiple layers, cover hands and heads, and limit time outdoors where possible. Travelers starting early Sunday should prepare for bitter cold when warming up vehicles or walking to transit stops.
More updates from the National Weather Service will follow as conditions evolve.
