Nashville, Tenn. – Showers and thunderstorms are expected to linger across Middle Tennessee through Wednesday night, bringing the potential for heavy rainfall, lightning, and travel delays. Rain chances stay elevated overnight with a storm threat returning by midday Wednesday.

According to the National Weather Service in Nashville, scattered thunderstorms could develop between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Wednesday, with winds gusting as high as 20 mph. Rainfall amounts may range from a quarter to three-quarters of an inch, and localized heavier downpours are possible.

Commuters around Nashville, Franklin, and Murfreesboro should plan for slow-moving traffic and slick roadways during the evening rush Wednesday. The Cumberland Plateau may also see stronger storms with lightning risk into the night. Power outages are possible where storms become more intense.

Conditions begin to improve Thursday, with only isolated showers expected early before skies gradually clear. Sunshine returns Friday into the weekend, giving the region a break from the soggy pattern.
