Nashville, Tenn. – Strong thunderstorms could disrupt travel and outdoor plans across much of Tennessee Friday evening as a severe thunderstorm watch remains in effect until midnight. The National Weather Service warns storms could bring damaging winds, large hail, and dangerous lightning through late tonight.
According to the Storm Prediction Center in Norman, Oklahoma, the watch covers more than 50 counties, including Davidson, Rutherford, Williamson, Sumner, and Wilson in Middle Tennessee. Western areas like Madison, Henderson, and Hardeman are also included, along with Cumberland Plateau counties such as Fentress and Morgan.
Residents in Nashville and Clarksville may encounter wind gusts up to 60 mph, while hail remains a threat in Murfreesboro, Columbia, and Cookeville. The Tennessee Emergency Management Agency urges drivers to avoid flooded roadways and secure loose outdoor items before storms arrive. Power outages remain possible if trees or lines come down in high winds.
Storms are expected to weaken after midnight, though isolated showers could linger into Saturday morning. Additional advisories may be issued if severe cells redevelop overnight.
