NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Dangerous heat is gripping Middle Tennessee as temperatures push near 100 degrees and humidity drives the heat index as high as 107 through Tuesday evening. A heat advisory remains in effect until 7 p.m. Tuesday, raising concerns for anyone spending extended time outdoors.

According to the National Weather Service in Nashville, Monday’s high could reach 99 degrees with only light breezes offering limited relief. The advisory warns of heat-related illnesses if precautions are not taken, particularly for outdoor workers, children, and older adults.

Metro Nashville, Murfreesboro, and Franklin are expected to experience the most intense conditions, with cooling centers opening across Davidson County. Emergency officials urge residents to stay hydrated, limit strenuous outdoor activity to early morning or evening hours, and check on vulnerable neighbors. Pets should be kept indoors where possible.

Relief may arrive by midweek. Storm chances increase Wednesday afternoon into Wednesday night, offering a break from the oppressive heat. Until then, residents should prepare for another sweltering day Tuesday with highs again near 100 and a heat index topping 107.
