Nashville, Tennessee – Widespread rainfall is expected to move into Middle Tennessee late this week, with increasing chances for heavy rain and thunderstorms, according to the National Weather Service in Nashville.
Forecasters said there is a 60 to 80 percent chance of receiving more than one inch of rain between Thursday and Saturday morning. There is also a 30 to 50 percent chance that some locations could see more than two inches, particularly where thunderstorms produce locally heavier downpours.
The highest rain chances are expected Thursday night through Friday night, though periods of rain may linger into early Saturday. Thunderstorms embedded within the rain could lead to uneven rainfall totals, with some areas receiving significantly more rain than others.
According to the National Weather Service, heavy downpours could result in brief street flooding and water ponding in low-lying or poor-drainage areas. While widespread flooding is not guaranteed, officials said residents should remain aware of changing conditions as forecast details continue to evolve.
Rainfall projections show most of Middle Tennessee likely receiving between 1 and 1.5 inches, with higher amounts possible farther east and southeast, depending on storm development.
The forecast may be especially relevant for commuters, outdoor events, and travelers heading into the weekend.
The National Weather Service cautioned that rainfall amounts could change over the next few days and encouraged residents to monitor updates at weather.gov/ohx as the system approaches.
