Harrisburg, PA – A widespread rain event is moving into the Mid-Atlantic region today as an area of low pressure and a cold front track eastward, bringing a soggy end to the weekend and a wet start to the workweek.

According to the National Weather Service Middle Atlantic River Forecast Center, Pennsylvania and New York are expected to see the heaviest rainfall, with some areas forecast to receive 1.5 inches or more by early Monday. Rainfall totals will taper off to the south, with lighter accumulations expected across Maryland, Delaware, and northern Virginia.

Meteorologists say the rain will begin Sunday and continue into Monday morning, potentially leading to minor ponding on roads and reduced visibility during the Monday commute. However, no river flooding is expected from this system.

The forecast indicates that rainfall should begin to diminish late Monday as the cold front exits to the east, ushering in cooler and drier air for the middle of the week.

Drivers and commuters are advised to plan for slower travel conditions Sunday night through Monday morning, especially across central and northeastern Pennsylvania and southern New York.
