Rockland, Maine – Roads across Maine’s Midcoast could become slick and hazardous late Tuesday evening as accumulating snow spreads in overnight, setting up difficult travel conditions for the Wednesday morning commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Gray, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 7 p.m. Tuesday until 4 p.m. Wednesday for Coastal and Interior Waldo County, Knox County, Lincoln County, and Sagadahoc County. Snow accumulations of 4 to 6 inches are expected, with the potential for localized heavier bursts if snow bands develop.

Snow is expected to begin Tuesday evening and continue overnight, gradually coating untreated roads across communities including Rockland, Camden, Belfast, Bath, Wiscasset, Damariscotta, Boothbay Harbor, Thomaston, and Lincolnville. While the system is considered weak overall, forecasters warn that narrow snow bands could briefly produce heavier snowfall rates, leading to rapid accumulation and sudden drops in visibility.

The greatest impacts are expected during the Wednesday morning commute, especially on secondary roads and less-traveled routes. Bridges, overpasses, and coastal roadways may become slick early, even where snowfall rates remain modest.

Drivers are urged to slow down, increase following distance, and allow extra time Wednesday morning. Conditions may improve gradually Wednesday afternoon as snow tapers, though slick spots could linger into the evening. The advisory remains in effect through mid-afternoon Wednesday, and travelers are encouraged to monitor road conditions via New England 511 in case conditions worsen.
