Springfield, Illinois – Central Illinois is heading into a blistering weekend, with temperatures climbing into the upper 90s and little relief in sight until at least Tuesday. Heat indices could push near 100°F each afternoon, especially in urban areas like Springfield, Decatur, and Champaign, increasing the risk of heat exhaustion.
According to the National Weather Service in Lincoln, daily highs will range from 92°F to 98°F through Monday, with overnight lows staying sticky in the 70s. While rain chances remain low through the weekend—below 10%—that will begin to change by late Monday into Tuesday as a shift in the ridge pattern allows scattered storms to move farther south into the region.
Communities across Macon, Sangamon, and McLean counties should stay alert for rising humidity and take extra precautions to stay hydrated and cool. Outdoor workers and vulnerable populations are especially urged to limit exposure during peak heat hours from noon to 6 p.m.
By Tuesday, storm chances increase to 30%, bringing the possibility of isolated downpours and lightning. More updates will follow if storm threats intensify.
