Memphis, TN – Strong winds are expected to sweep through the Mid-South this afternoon, with cities like Memphis, Jonesboro, and Blytheville facing high probabilities of sustained wind speeds exceeding 20 mph. Residents should secure outdoor items and remain alert for potentially hazardous travel conditions.

According to the National Weather Service in Memphis, wind gusts between 30 and 35 mph are likely through late Wednesday. Blytheville shows a 97% probability for sustained winds above 20 mph, with Jonesboro at 93% and Memphis at 50%. These gusts may cause power interruptions, difficult driving conditions, and hazards from unsecured objects.

Western Tennessee and northeastern Arkansas are under the highest threat. The strongest wind potential extends across counties bordering the Mississippi River, with additional moderate risk in Clarksville (67%) and Corning (95%). Cities such as Jackson, TN, and Tupelo, MS, face lower but notable risks below 15%.

Officials advise caution for drivers, particularly those operating high-profile vehicles. Secure lawn furniture, trash bins, and decorations to prevent windblown debris. Power outages may also occur in high-risk zones.

These conditions, while not uncommon in spring, are higher than average for April. Wind activity is expected to diminish by Wednesday night, with calm conditions returning Thursday.
