Memphis, Tenn. – A light wintry mix is expected to impact parts of the Mid-South from Monday afternoon through early Tuesday, potentially leading to slick travel conditions. The National Weather Service in Memphis has issued a Winter Weather Advisory from 3 p.m. Monday through 6 a.m. Tuesday for northern portions of Mississippi, eastern Arkansas, and western Tennessee, including the Memphis metro area.
Forecasters say a light glaze of ice (0.01–0.05 inches) is likely by Tuesday morning, particularly on bridges, overpasses, and untreated roads. While this will be a minor event overall, even small ice accumulations can create hazardous travel conditions during the Tuesday morning commute.
Uncertainty remains around the exact position of the freezing line, which will determine how far south the freezing rain extends. Precipitation is expected to begin as a light wintry mix before transitioning to plain rain as temperatures slowly rise overnight.
Drivers should allow extra travel time, reduce speeds, and use caution—especially in rural and elevated areas where ice tends to form first. Conditions will improve later Tuesday morning as temperatures climb above freezing.
