Memphis, Tenn. – A dangerous heat wave continues to grip Tennessee on Friday, with heat index values projected to reach or exceed 107°F in Memphis and across much of West Tennessee by late afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Memphis, a Heat Advisory remains in effect from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. for a wide swath of the Mid-South, including Dyersburg, Jackson, Bolivar, and Union City. Counties along the Mississippi River, including portions of Arkansas and Missouri, are under an Excessive Heat Warning, where heat index values may top 110°F.

Cities such as Blytheville, TN, and Tupelo, MS, are expected to experience heat indices near 110°F, while Oxford and Holly Springs may see slightly lower but still dangerous readings near 100°F. Residents are urged to limit outdoor activity, drink plenty of water, wear lightweight clothing, and never leave children or pets in parked vehicles.

This prolonged heat is expected to last well into next week, with maximum heat index values projected to exceed 105°F daily through at least Wednesday, July 23. These conditions significantly increase the risk of heat-related illness, especially for vulnerable populations.

Heat advisories may be extended into the weekend as temperatures and humidity remain elevated across the region.
