Memphis, TN – Warm, summer-like temperatures are building across Tennessee, but a prolonged stretch of rain and thunderstorms will begin impacting travel and daily routines by late Tuesday night.
According to the National Weather Service in Memphis, highs will climb into the upper 70s and 80s through early week across West Tennessee, Arkansas, and شمال Mississippi. This warmth will help fuel a slow-moving system expected to stall over the Lower Mississippi Valley, bringing repeated rounds of showers and thunderstorms from late Tuesday night through Sunday.
The greatest concern is rainfall totals, with a 40 to 60 percent chance of at least 2 inches across the region. Cities including Memphis, Jackson, and Jonesboro could see periods of heavy rain that lead to ponding on roads like I-40 and I-55, along with minor flooding in low-lying neighborhoods and poor drainage areas.
Residents should prepare now by checking drainage systems, avoiding flooded roadways, and planning for slower commutes later this week. Stronger storms could also produce gusty winds and brief downpours.
Unsettled conditions will persist through the weekend, and additional flood or storm advisories may be issued as rainfall totals become clearer.
