Memphis, Tennessee – Strong winds and a risk for isolated severe storms could impact travel and safety across the Mid-South beginning Thursday morning and continuing into the evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Memphis, a Wind Advisory is in effect from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. CDT Thursday, with sustained south winds of 20 to 30 mph and gusts reaching up to 40 mph. These winds could make driving difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles along I-40 and I-55, and may blow around unsecured outdoor objects.

By the afternoon, isolated severe storms are expected to develop between 2 p.m. and 8 p.m., moving west to east across west Tennessee, northeast Arkansas, and north Mississippi. The primary threat will be damaging winds, though a brief tornado and pockets of large hail are also possible.

Cities including Memphis, Jonesboro, and Dyersburg could see rapidly changing conditions, with storms developing quickly and moving at a steady pace.

Residents are urged to secure loose items, use caution while driving, and stay alert for warnings.

Winds will gradually ease Thursday night, but additional storm chances may return heading into the weekend.
