Tennessee – A cool, steady breeze carries across the Mississippi River this morning as travelers fill the highways leaving or entering the Mid-South. The skyline above Memphis glows soft gold at sunrise, with crisp, dry air creating ideal travel conditions through the day. It’s the kind of calm, mild start holiday travelers hope for — one that comes just before another change in the pattern.

According to the National Weather Service in Memphis, Thanksgiving week brings mostly quiet weather through Friday, offering a perfect window for road trips and outdoor gatherings. Today stays sunny with highs near 51°F, and by Thanksgiving Day, highs will reach the upper 40s to near 50°F with light winds and plenty of sunshine — a mild but brisk feel for outdoor plans or football in the yard.

By Friday evening, clouds begin to increase as a southern storm system tracks toward the Mid-South. Rain and scattered showers are likely Saturday into Sunday, with a 70–90% chance of precipitation. Most of the rain will be light to moderate, but wet pavement could slow travel along Interstate 40 and U.S. 78 through the weekend.

Temperatures stay in the upper 40s Saturday before dropping into the low 30s Sunday night, bringing a hint of early frost. Forecasters are also watching a developing Arctic front expected to sweep across much of the U.S. between December 1–5, signaling colder air and potential early winter weather for regions north of Tennessee.

For now, travelers across the Mid-South can enjoy two more days of calm sunshine before December’s first rainmaker arrives — and before that familiar chill of early winter begins to settle in.
