LOUISVILLE, KY. – After several days of steady downpours that drenched much of Kentucky and southern Indiana, rivers across the Ohio Valley are finally beginning to recede. Some communities saw nearly 5 inches of rainfall in just two days, swelling creeks and rivers to their highest levels in weeks.

According to the National Weather Service Ohio River Forecast Center, the heaviest rainfall totals were recorded across central Kentucky and southern Indiana, where runoff led to temporary rises along the Green, Wabash, and Ohio Rivers. Those levels are now expected to fall gradually through the weekend as drier air moves into the region.

Emergency management officials in Jefferson, Floyd, and Hardin counties reported minor road flooding early Wednesday, but conditions have since improved. Residents near flood-prone areas are still advised to monitor local alerts as water levels continue to adjust.

Forecasters say a stretch of dry, mild weather will take hold through next week, helping saturated soils recover and easing travel conditions across the region.
