Memphis, Tennessee – Drivers across West Tennessee faced reduced visibility Friday morning as dense fog blanketed the region, while a dangerous heatwave continues to build into the afternoon with heat index values topping 107°F.

According to the National Weather Service in Memphis, a Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 9 a.m. CDT, with visibility falling below a quarter mile in areas like Jackson, Covington, and Dyersburg. Commuters are urged to slow down, use low-beam headlights, and consider delaying travel if possible.

A Heat Advisory is also active from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, with heat index values between 105°F and 107°F expected in counties along the Mississippi River, including Shelby, Lauderdale, and Tipton. The heat is part of the first major heatwave of 2025, which is expected to persist into the weekend.

Residents should limit strenuous outdoor activity, stay indoors during peak heat hours, and stay hydrated. Vulnerable populations—including children, seniors, and outdoor workers—face an increased risk of heat-related illness.

More heat advisories may be issued through Sunday as triple-digit heat index values continue.
