Memphis, TN – The Mid-South is entering its climatological window for the first fall freeze, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Memphis. As of Tuesday, November 4, Jackson, Tennessee, is the only location in the region to have reached freezing so far this season.
Historical data from the NWS shows that the average first freeze date for Memphis is November 12, while Jonesboro, Arkansas, typically sees its first freeze around November 3 and Tupelo, Mississippi, around November 4. Jackson, which averages its first freeze on October 28, reached that milestone earlier than its regional neighbors this year.
Forecasters say that current weather trends are typical for early November, as colder air masses begin to influence the Mid-South. While no immediate hard freeze warnings are in effect, temperatures are expected to continue dropping in the coming weeks, especially during clear, calm nights.
Residents are advised to prepare for the season’s first freeze by protecting outdoor plants, draining garden hoses, and checking heating systems ahead of colder weather moving in later this month.
