Memphis, TN – Residents across the Mid-South can expect a brief cooldown Friday, followed by a noticeable warm-up heading into next week, according to the National Weather Service.

According to the National Weather Service in Memphis, temperatures will turn colder on Friday, marking the chilliest period in the current forecast cycle. Highs are expected to remain below recent levels before rebounding quickly over the weekend and into next week.

Forecasters say warmer-than-normal temperatures are likely to return across West Tennessee, North Mississippi, East Arkansas, and Southeast Missouri, with daytime highs climbing back into the upper 50s and 60s by early next week. Some locations could approach the mid to upper 60s as Christmas week approaches.

What has changed in the latest forecast is the increased likelihood of a weak cold front sagging into the Mid-South on Sunday. This front is expected to bring increased cloud cover and a few light showers, but rainfall amounts appear minimal at this time. The front may briefly interrupt the warming trend, though no significant cold air is expected to follow.

Cities included in this outlook include Memphis, Jackson (TN), Jonesboro (AR), and Tupelo (MS), all of which show similar temperature patterns with a short-lived dip followed by a steady climb.

The National Weather Service notes that while Friday will feel noticeably cooler, temperatures will remain near or above seasonal averages for much of the upcoming holiday week.

Residents are encouraged to keep an eye on updated forecasts, especially for Sunday’s potential showers, but overall weather conditions look favorable for late-December travel and outdoor plans.
