Memphis, TN – High humidity is here to stay across the Mid-South, even as slightly cooler temperatures offer a brief break this weekend. Afternoon showers and thunderstorms could become more frequent as an upper-level ridge weakens, making outdoor plans soggier but not cooler for long.
According to the National Weather Service in Memphis, highs will dip by just a few degrees from Saturday, June 28, through Monday, July 1. Cloud cover and scattered rainfall will help keep daytime heat in check, with Jackson, Jonesboro, Memphis, and Tupelo all hovering in the low-to-mid 80s during peak hours. However, steamy conditions persist due to elevated humidity, especially in the late afternoon.
Expect muggy conditions to intensify again by midweek as temperatures rise back into the upper 80s ahead of Independence Day. Firework shows and barbecues could feel oppressive under thick air and sticky evening lows in the mid-70s. Storms may flare during peak heating hours, particularly on July 3 and 4.
Locals are advised to stay hydrated, limit midday outdoor activity, and keep an eye on short-term storm alerts.
Humidity and scattered storms will continue through at least Friday, with updated advisories possible ahead of the July Fourth holiday.
