Memphis, TN – Residents across the Mid-South should prepare for a windy night as forecasters warn of increasingly gusty conditions that may develop after sunset, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) Memphis office.

According to NWS forecasters, non-thunderstorm wind gusts are expected to strengthen overnight, with several locations seeing gusts reach 35 to 40 mph at times. While a few isolated thunderstorms cannot be ruled out, the primary concern is widespread gusty winds tied to an approaching weather disturbance.

Probability maps from the NWS show a 40–60% chance of wind gusts topping 40 mph across portions of Memphis, Jackson, Bolivar, Corinth, Dyersburg, Wynne, and McKenzie. Some pockets across west Tennessee and northeast Arkansas show even higher potential for a brief period of stronger gusts.

Forecasters caution that these winds, even without thunderstorms, may be strong enough to scatter unsecured outdoor items. Decorations, patio furniture, garbage bins, and lightweight objects could shift or blow over during the night. Minor tree limb movement is also possible, though widespread damage is not expected.

Showers will continue moving through the region into the evening, but the stronger winds may occur both with and without rainfall. Residents are encouraged to take a moment before bedtime to secure items on porches, decks, and yards.

The gusty pattern will ease slightly by early Tuesday morning as the disturbance moves east.

Motorists driving high-profile vehicles, such as vans and trailers, should use extra caution on north–south highways if traveling late tonight.
