Memphis, Tenn. – Dangerous heat is set to grip the Mid-South this weekend, with temperatures climbing near 100 degrees and heat index values surging above 105 through Tuesday. Residents in Shelby County are urged to take precautions as conditions become increasingly hazardous for outdoor activity.

According to the National Weather Service in Memphis, Saturday will reach 97 degrees, but humidity will make it feel as hot as 109. Sunday and Monday are expected to push even higher, with actual highs near 99 and 100. Tuesday could top out at 101 before relief comes midweek with increased storm chances.

The heat advisory in place warns of health risks such as heat exhaustion and heat stroke, especially for those without access to air conditioning. Emergency officials advise limiting time outdoors, staying hydrated, and checking on elderly neighbors and pets.

Power demand is expected to rise across the region, which could stress local utilities. Road crews and outdoor workers are at particular risk, with heat safety protocols expected to remain in effect through the start of the workweek.

The hottest stretch will linger until Tuesday night, when storm chances may begin to break the heat. Additional advisories could be issued if triple-digit temperatures persist longer than expected.
