Memphis, TN – The National Weather Service in Memphis says the risk for severe weather on Saturday, October 18 has expanded slightly eastward, bringing more of the Mid-South under a Slight Risk for storms.
According to the NWS, damaging winds and localized flash flooding will be the primary threats Saturday afternoon and evening as a strong system moves through the region. The latest forecast shows a 15% probability of severe storms, with timing expected later in the day than earlier projections.
At this point, meteorologists say the tornado threat remains limited, but they are monitoring conditions closely. Areas within the Slight Risk zone include Memphis, Jackson, Dyersburg, and parts of northern Mississippi and eastern Arkansas.
Residents are urged to stay informed, keep multiple ways to receive weather alerts, and review their shelter plans in case warnings are issued. Confidence remains low in the forecast, but rapid changes are possible as the system approaches.
The NWS advises travelers and outdoor planners to remain weather-aware through Saturday evening, as heavy rain could cause brief flooding on roads and low-lying areas.
