Memphis, TN – Residents across the Mid-South should prepare for the risk of isolated severe storms this afternoon, with the main window between 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Monday, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Memphis.

According to the NWS, storms will move west-southwest to east-northeast and could produce gusts up to 60 miles per hour. While tornadoes and large hail are not expected, forecasters caution that damaging winds may create hazardous travel conditions and minor property damage.

Forecasters say the overall severe risk remains marginal, meaning storms are expected to be limited in duration and coverage. However, even brief but intense downbursts could down tree limbs or cause temporary power outages during the afternoon and evening commute.

Localized flooding concerns are low but possible in spots where heavy rain develops. The greatest impacts are expected near the Tennessee River Valley, with Nashville, Columbia, and Lawrenceburg highlighted in the NWS risk map.

Residents are urged to stay weather-aware, monitor forecasts, and ensure they have multiple ways to receive warnings. The NWS advises having a safety plan in place should conditions intensify unexpectedly.

This system marks the beginning of an active weather week for the Mid-South. Scattered severe storms are expected again on Tuesday afternoon into the night, followed by isolated storms on Wednesday, with heavy rainfall possible through Thursday morning.
