Memphis, Tenn. – Heat index values across the Mid-South could soar above 105°F by Wednesday, with Memphis, Jackson, and Jonesboro already approaching triple-digit highs Monday afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Memphis, high temperatures across Tennessee, Mississippi, and eastern Arkansas will range from 92°F to 99°F through Friday, but humidity will push the heat index even higher—likely into the mid-100s across much of the region.

Cities including Oxford, Blytheville, and Union City are expected to hit 96° to 98° midweek, while Memphis and surrounding areas could feel more like 105° or higher during peak afternoon hours. The worst of the heat is expected between 1 and 6 p.m. daily.

Residents are urged to take precautions: limit outdoor activity during the hottest part of the day, stay hydrated, avoid leaving pets or children in vehicles, and wear light-colored, breathable clothing. Cooling centers and public libraries are open in several counties, including Shelby and Desoto.

This extended heat event is typical for July but poses increased risk due to its duration and humidity. NWS says additional advisories may be issued if temperatures climb further.

Heat warnings remain in effect through at least Thursday afternoon.
