Memphis, Tennessee – Strong winds are ramping up across the Mid-South right now, with gusts expected to reach 40 mph and create hazardous travel conditions through the day.

According to the National Weather Service in Memphis, a Wind Advisory is in effect from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday as a cold front moves through the region. Sustained north winds around 25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph will impact areas including Memphis, Jackson, and Jonesboro.

Light rain showers are also expected, mainly along and north of the I-40 corridor, though rainfall totals will remain minimal at around a tenth of an inch or less. The primary concern will be wind impacts, especially for high-profile vehicles traveling on I-40, I-55, and Highway 78.

Loose outdoor objects could be blown around, and isolated tree limb damage is possible in stronger gusts.

Temperatures will cool behind the front, with a noticeable drop heading into Saturday. Highs will return to more seasonable levels before warming back into the 70s and 80s early next week.

Residents should secure outdoor items and use caution while driving, especially during peak wind periods this afternoon.

Winds will begin to ease Friday night, with calmer conditions expected by early Saturday.
