Memphis, Tenn. – A tornado watch is in effect for much of the Mid-South, including western Tennessee and northern Mississippi, through 2 a.m. Saturday as a line of severe storms moves across the region.
According to the National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center, multiple supercell thunderstorms are expected to bring tornadoes, with a few strong tornadoes possible. Large hail up to 3 inches in diameter and damaging wind gusts reaching 75 mph are also likely.
The watch includes northern and central Arkansas, the Missouri Bootheel, far northern Mississippi, and much of western Tennessee—including cities like Memphis, Jackson, Jonesboro, and Batesville. Travel could become hazardous overnight, especially along I-40, I-55, and U.S. Route 64.
Residents are urged to stay weather-aware and have multiple ways to receive warnings. Charge mobile devices, secure outdoor items, and seek shelter immediately if a warning is issued. Schools and emergency services in several counties are monitoring developments closely.
Storms are expected to persist into the early morning hours, and additional warnings may be issued. The tornado watch remains active until 2 a.m. CDT Saturday.
