Memphis, Tenn. – Damaging winds and large hail are possible this afternoon across parts of West Tennessee and far western Kentucky as a severe thunderstorm watch remains in effect until 7 p.m. CDT Thursday.
According to the National Weather Service’s Storm Prediction Center, counties under watch include Dyer, Lake, Lauderdale, and Obion in Tennessee, along with Carlisle, Fulton, and Hickman in Kentucky. Thunderstorms may produce gusts up to 60 mph, frequent lightning, and quarter-size hail.
Cities like Dyersburg, Tiptonville, and Union City could see rapidly intensifying cells through the late afternoon. In Kentucky, communities near Fulton and Clinton should prepare for brief but intense downpours and the potential for tree damage or power outages.
Residents are advised to secure outdoor items, avoid unnecessary travel, and stay tuned to local alerts. High-profile vehicles should use caution on exposed roadways like US-51 and KY-94 due to wind risk.
This is part of a broader system pushing across the Mid-South, with scattered strong storms likely to continue developing eastward this evening.
Additional watches or warnings may be issued if storm intensity increases. Stay weather-aware through 7 p.m. as conditions evolve.
