Memphis, Tennessee – Life across Memphis and much of the Mid-South will grind through another stretch of extreme heat as triple-digit heat indices grip the region through early next week. The dangerous combination of heat and humidity could push “feels like” temperatures to 111°F in Memphis and neighboring cities every day through Monday, putting thousands at risk for heat illness and disrupting daily routines.

According to the National Weather Service in Memphis, heat advisories and warnings are in effect from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily, with the most intense heat blanketing Shelby, Tipton, Fayette, and DeSoto counties. Heat index values will exceed 110°F in Memphis, Blytheville, Covington, and Forrest City, while areas like Tupelo and Oxford will see sustained readings over 105°F. The NWS warns that these oppressive conditions heighten the threat of heat exhaustion or heat stroke—especially for those working outdoors, seniors, and children.

Local roads, including stretches of I-40 and US-51, could see increased breakdowns or medical emergencies. Power grids may also strain as residents rely on air conditioning to stay safe. Schools and childcare centers are urging families to send kids in light-colored, loose-fitting clothing and to plan for extra hydration breaks.

Officials urge everyone to avoid strenuous activity during peak afternoon hours, never leave children or pets in vehicles, and check on vulnerable neighbors. The extreme heat is expected to persist at least through Monday, July 28, with additional advisories possible if temperatures remain elevated.
