Memphis, Tennessee – Severe storms will threaten Tennessee and the Mid-South through Friday night, with damaging winds, large hail, and a growing chance for tornadoes expected across the region.
According to the National Weather Service in Memphis, isolated thunderstorms are possible tonight, especially after 10 p.m., but the more dangerous conditions arrive Friday afternoon. A Level 3 out of 5 severe weather risk is in place for much of western and central Tennessee from 2 p.m. Friday through 2 a.m. Saturday. Storms will move from northwest to southeast, potentially impacting travel and power lines.
Cities under the highest risk include Memphis, Jackson, Dyersburg, and Paris. Storms could produce wind gusts up to 60 mph and hail large enough to damage vehicles and crops. The NWS notes a few tornadoes can’t be ruled out. Clarksville and Nashville fall under a Level 2 risk, with slightly lower chances for widespread severe activity but still significant threats.
Residents are urged to secure outdoor items, monitor local alerts, and avoid travel during peak storm hours. Charge phones and prepare backup power options in case of outages.
The risk of additional severe weather remains through early Saturday, with more updates expected from the NWS.
